PSP Still Doing Crazy Well in Japan 06/10/2008

Looks like another great freebie for PSP owners. You can now get free Wifi with any PSP. This is thanks to a partnership with ATT and Sony to get more people into Starbucks stores. Sony is really trying to expand the market of PSP into the kids and female area. This area has been well dominated by Nintendo, but it may now change. Sony has now come out and admitted that they are changing their focus to women and children. This is interesting because they are basically saying they won't be catering to hardcore gamers as much. Sony is getting more colorful with their slim PSP line. There are now a whole slew of colors to choose from with one being released every other month. This time around it will be a blue one. Earlier in the year, it didn't seem like the Sony PSP would be able to hold the top spot for the rest of the year, but now it finally seems like a reality. Thanks to Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which has been the top selling gamers for awhile now. The Nintendo Wii is still selling a respectable 41K units which puts it nicely into second. The Sony PSP is still selling very well despite there being any new games out recently. It is still outselling the Xbox 360 and Ps3 every month. It sold 192K units last month. Interestingly, the PSP has increased sales 5.6 percent from last year on April 2007. New Worldwide PSP Releases 05/19/2008

It seems like the only place where the Sony PSP is really taking over is in Japan, but why is that? The rest of the world doesn't to be experiencing the same lust for the Sony PSP. The Sony PSP was not very friendly to many game makers who were into making games that took a lot effort and money. Companies like Planet Moon tried their best to produce great games like Infected and After Burner, but these titles did not receive enough sales to make it worthwhile. |
