If you thought the Sony PSP would simmer down by now, you're totally wrong. The PSP is selling like hotcakes in Japan thanks to Monster Hunter 2G. Now Americans have no idea what the heck that is, but it is the reason why PSPs are selling so well.

The question is whether Monster Hunter will sell well in American. If so, then PSP should sell like hotcakes here as well! The Wii and DS came in 2nd and 3rd which is respectable. PSP's big brother though came in 4th with only 9100 sold which is a bit lacking. Let's hope those financial analysts are right and the PS3 should be taking off anytime now.

 
 

Looks like another great freebie for PSP owners. You can now get free Wifi with any PSP. This is thanks to a partnership with ATT and Sony to get more people into Starbucks stores. There is only one issue in that you can't play games online using the Wifi connection.

You'll be stuck with just interest browsing which isn't too bad. This is a pretty sweet deal for those who hate paying for Wifi at coffee stores. The iPhone was the first mobile device to get free Wifi and now the PSP gets it. Is this a new trend to give people with Wifi devices free internet? It's an interest tactic which I'm not sure if it really helps sell more coffee.

 
 

Sony is really trying to expand the market of PSP into the kids and female area. This area has been well dominated by Nintendo, but it may now change. Sony has now come out and admitted that they are changing their focus to women and children. This is interesting because they are basically saying they won't be catering to hardcore gamers as much.

We believe Sony is closely watching sales of Nintendo DS and Wii and finding that many people want games that are lighter and easier to play. This will make for an interesting new set of games to be released for the PSP. Hopefully the hardcore gamers won't be too disturbed.

 
 

Sony is getting more colorful with their slim PSP line. There are now a whole slew of colors to choose from with one being released every other month. This time around it will be a blue one. The blue version will be available in the Value Pack which includes all the standard equipment. It will retail for 23800 yen in Japan.

It's an interesting strategy by Sony, and it has good timing since the Sony PSP is the most popular console in Japan. Since blue is such a popular color with many. I'm sure we'll many more people playing Monster Hunter 2G on their now blue PSP.

 
 

If you thought the title was ridiculous, think again. It turns out that GPS has been available over in other parts of the world. Now finally, the US is going to receive the PSP GPS. The software will be run by Tele Atlas and will completely in 3D.

The software will come in form of a UMD disk, but also will be downloadable right to the Memory Stick. The price will be between 100 to 200 dollars. Sony is also considering adding new features in the US like adding GPS based games including treasure hunts, friend locators, and stuff.

 
 

Earlier in the year, it didn't seem like the Sony PSP would be able to hold the top spot for the rest of the year, but now it finally seems like a reality. Thanks to Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which has been the top selling gamers for awhile now. The Nintendo Wii is still selling a respectable 41K units which puts it nicely into second.

The Nintendo DS comes in 3rd place which is the main competitor to the PSP. The other consoles, PS3 and Xbox 360 aren't even close to catching up. This is great news for PSP and it looks like we'll see new games now thanks to the new interest in the PSP.

 
 

The Sony PSP is still selling very well despite there being any new games out recently. It is still outselling the Xbox 360 and Ps3 every month. It sold 192K units last month. Interestingly, the PSP has increased sales 5.6 percent from last year on April 2007.

Sony sure knows how to sell it's consoles for the long haul. The Nintendo Wii and DS received the top honors. However, GTA 4 stole the show as they racked over 500 million dollars in just 1 week. That's more than the highest grossing movies get!

 
 

New games coming out for both North America and Asia, but no games for Europe. Ironically, North America gets UEFA Euro 2008 soccer game, which is highly popular in Europe. They received it a month ago, so it really isn't that ironic.

For Asia, they are getting Daisenryaku VII Exceed and UEFA Euro 2008. I'm not sure how many European soccer fans there are in Asia, so I doubt it'll be a big hit. Daisenryaku VII Exceed looks like a great game though. It is turned based in a tactical warfare environment. I'd play it if it wasn't for the fact it's not in English.

 
 

It seems like the only place where the Sony PSP is really taking over is in Japan, but why is that? The rest of the world doesn't to be experiencing the same lust for the Sony PSP. It turns out that the game developers in Japan have done it all by producing games like Monster Hunter 2G.

Games like Monster Hunter 2G have generated new Sony PSP sales almost by themselves. The PSP is now selling over 100K units a month beating out the Wii which is at 71K and the DS at 52K. This is quite impressive and we hope to see these numbers rise. But the question remains, where are all these cool games for the rest of the world?

 
 

The Sony PSP was not very friendly to many game makers who were into making games that took a lot effort and money. Companies like Planet Moon tried their best to produce great games like Infected and After Burner, but these titles did not receive enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Planet Moon isn't the only company who was discouraged about PSP game sales. However, the PSP is coming back with strong sales of new consoles and games, so now they are reconsidering. However, good games take awhile to make so you'll have to wait before we see a lot of new PSP games.
